Rina Modhi – Yoga Teacher Training Student Testimonial

Rina Modi shares her thoughts and experiences on the 2019 London Yoga Teacher Training program.

Rina: Hi my name is Rina and today I graduate from Heather Elton’s 200 hour teaching class.

Ashley: So what made you choose this teacher training over other teacher trainings?

Rina: Um, when I was looking for a teacher training course, I really was looking for something authentic. That was one of the most important things to me. And when I say authentic, I mean, umm- a course where I would learn about all the different areas of yoga, I didn’t want to just learn about asana.

You just come away, just learning how amazing your body is and how strong you are and that’s really empowering.

I wanted to understand pranayama, breath work, I wanted to understand the roots. I wanted to really just get a full 360 view of yoga not just as a physical practice, but spiritual, mental practice as well. And, out of all of the courses I looked at, I felt this one to match what I wanted best.

Ashley: And what part of the course, given that it’s in different sections do you, did you enjoy the most?

Rina: I have to say the philosophy. I really enjoyed the philosophy. Much more than- I knew I would enjoy enjoy it, but I deeply got involved I mean, I loved it. It was fascinating. It was like taking a journey, you know and just discovering all of these amazing facts and philosophies. Um… and not just from learning point of view, from being able to take that and put it into my own life and help myself really. So, that was amazing. Umm… Anatomy was really great as well. I think you just come away, just learning how amazing your body is and how strong you are and that’s really empowering. Umm… I didn’t think I would love that anatomy as much as I did actually because I’m not- I’m more philosophically inclined rather than anatomical inclined, but the way it was delivered with super easy to understand. And, relating anatomy to yoga is also really fascinating, but really important as well to become a yoga teacher. So yeah, I think those two areas stood out the most for me.

I feel confident that I know enough now to be able to give other yoga students some knowledge and something that’s beneficial for their lives.

Ashley: And, a yoga teacher training is a transformative experience by nature, but is there something that the training gave you personally? Or, something that came up for you personally as a result of doing the training.

Rina: I think everyone said to me it was going to be a journey and maybe a roller coaster, right, a little bit as well. Umm- and it definitely has been because you explore your own awareness. Umm- and that- you can’t help but take that into your own life, you know. So it was a lot I thought about on a deep level from the beginning to the end of this course, you know. Heather teaches about Maya’s illusions, that we have in life. And, sometimes yoga can take those illusions away. And, it definitely is transformative in that way. But for me, I feel like I’ve kind of come out having thought about some of the things I needed to think about and I’ve come out positively. Does that make sense?

Ashley: Yeah. Do you feel ready to teach? Are you going to go out and teach now?

I’d like to think in a month’s time I will be going out there and teaching yoga to people. And it’s super exciting.

Rina: If you’d asked me even a month ago, I would have said no. But, I think now, you know today on graduation, I definitely want to go out and teach. I started the course of not knowing if I wanted to become a yoga teacher or not and doing it for myself, and I wanted to just see what happened. But I feel really excited about becoming yoga teacher now. So the motivation is there. I think I have probably- have a few weeks of just digesting and going back upon some of the things that I want to become more confident in. But yeah, I’d like to think in a month’s time I will be going out there and teaching yoga to people. And it’s super exciting. And I feel like- I think the reason I feel ready now is this because we’ve gone through everything so- in such a thorough way. I feel like of course, there’s other things to learn but at some point you just have to teach what you know, and I feel confident that I know enough now to be able to give other yoga students some knowledge and something that’s beneficial for their lives. So, yeah.

Ashley: Great. Thank you.

Rina: Okay. Is that ok?

Ashley: Yeah. Rina: Not cheesy?

Ashley: No, not at all.
