Thoughts

"See yourselves in others so deeply that Otherness disappears. When Otherness disappears, love remains, and Love brings us to the realization of the Oneness of being. That is the yogic-scientific formula." - Sharon Gannon (Jivamukti)

Travels

I simply love to explore new places in the world. Travel has always been a priority in my life and when I hit the road I try to leave my cultural trappings behind and lose myself in a new place. It is as much a journey of the soul as it is experiencing new cultures – of losing myself in the Other. I feel the further I get away from the familiarity of my life, the more foreign the place, the deeper I go towards my self. I rarely stay in luxury hotels and expect the comforts of the western world. I always dress modestly and respectfully according to customs of the land. I’ve chosen to travel ‘off the beaten trail’ although these days everywhere seems to have been explored. My earlier travels have taken me through Europe and behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War, trekking through tropical rainforests and ski touring on glaciers, to Native American sweatlodges and powwows, exploring ancient Mayan civilizations and climbing Roraima, Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lost World, in Venezuela. More recently my spiritual path has taken me to Myanmar, Sri Lanka and India. Travel for me is a spiritual journey.

Before being a full-time yoga teacher, I worked as a freelance writer/editor/photographer. I was a travel writer for Rough Guides and Fodor’s, and my photographs have been published in those publications as well as in international magazines including Yoga Journal, Esquire, Marie-Claire, The Times, Sunday Times, The Guardian, Home & Garden, In Britain and Trailfinders. ‘Travels’ contains a selection of my work from India.
